MECH WARRIORS ROBOTICS

Mission

Our robotics team (more commonly known as the Mech Warriors) is both an OCCRA and a FIRST team. The team, along with mentors, parents, and sponsors, create a diverse group devoted to learning and competing. Our mission is to create an environment where those students can gain experience in science, technology, engineering, math, and business fields while simultaneously taking away life skills in teamwork and discipline.

Meetings

Our team meets all year through its 2 seasons. For OCCRA (the local fall season), meetings take place 3 weekday evenings each week. For FIRST (the international winter/spring season), meetings take place 4 weekday evenings and 1 full Saturday each week. We meet in workspaces that Rice has graciously donated to our team (robotics shop and garage at the back of Old Monastery Hall and B-116).

Joining and Benefits of Being on Team

Absolutely no prior experience is needed to be a member on the team. Benefits from joining include gaining experience in:

  • Design, build, coding, and testing of a robot
  • Writing skills used to market the team and robot
  • Animation, website development, and graphic design
  • Development of the leadership skills that are necessary to succeed in life

In addition to the above experience, members can obtain varsity letters (achieved by making competition team for 2 seasons), internship opportunities, and scholarship opportunities.
