Rice in the D Recap 2019
Rice in the D – An Evening of Brotherhood and Mission
Our 2019 Edmund Rice Tuition Warrior honoree Gregory Schwartz, Sr. with his sons, Wally ’83, Ed ’87, Joe ’84, Peter ’93, and Greg ’82.
The spirit of Blessed Edmund was with the Men of Brother Rice at the DAC on October 3, 2019. A sold-out crowd of more than 330 grads, dads and friends celebrated a night of Brotherhood and Mission at the 5th annual Rice in the D Dinner. The evening began with a reverent prayer from Fr. Joseph Grimaldi, and continued with a champagne toast from Brother Rice Endowment Fund President Michael Tyranski ’84, in honor of reaching the 5-year milestone with record attendance and steady growth.
For his generous and ongoing support of Brother Rice, Mr. Gregory J. Schwartz Sr. was recognized as this year’s Honoree, and he shared his strong and unwavering belief in Catholic education, with many family members and friends in attendance.
We are grateful to our Event Chairman, Jim Nelson ’85, who made an inspiring call to carry out the legacy of Blessed Edmund Rice. He invited current student, Hershel Washington ‘21 and his mother Audrey, to share the journey that brought them to Brother Rice, and the doors that were opened through the generosity of all who support tuition assistance.
With generous sponsorship, donations and ticket sales, the 2019 Rice in the D dinner grossed a record setting $342,745. These funds will provide much needed tuition assistance dollars to qualifying students and help grow our overall school endowment. A special thank you to our Event Sponsors –Solomon Plumbing, Fortech Products, The Siwek Family Trust, Lunghamer Auto Group, Arthrex, and Merrill Lynch for their leadership support of the event.
