The Admissions Process
What to Expect During the Brother Rice High School Admissions Process
Choosing the right high school sets the tone for a young man’s future, academically, socially, and spiritually. At Brother Rice High School in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, an all-boys Catholic high school, the admissions process is designed to be transparent, supportive, and purposeful so families can feel confident every step of the way. Here’s a straightforward guide to what you can expect when applying to become part of the Brother Rice Band of Brothers.
1. Start With the Online Application for Brother Rice High School
The first step in your admissions journey begins with submitting the online application and all required supporting documents through Brother Rice’s application portal. This is your first formal introduction to the school and puts your son in the running for the next stages of the process.
2. Take the High School Placement Test (HSPT) for Catholic High School Admission
After applying, eighth-grade applicants will take the HSPT, which helps Brother Rice evaluate readiness across a variety of academic skills. Since the entire battery is standardized, the end results are directly comparable for all test areas and can be related to the level of the students at the time of entering high school. It’s an important piece of the admissions puzzle and often sets the tone for the next steps.
3. Experience a Day on Campus: Warrior for a Day at Brother Rice High School
One of the most exciting parts of the process is the Warrior for a Day visit. This immersive experience lets prospective students live a day in the life of a Brother Rice Warrior, from prayer and classroom time to meeting current students and faculty. During your visit, your son will also complete his admissions interview, which gives our Admissions Committee a chance to get to know him personally.
This visit is not about evaluation; it is about connection. Your son will be paired with a current student so he can see firsthand what makes Brother Rice so special.
4. Admissions Decisions and Events
Once your son’s application, test results, interview, and visit are complete, the Admissions Committee reviews his file. For rising freshmen, early decisions are released on Warrior Decision Day in January.
Accepted families are then invited back to campus the following day for the Future Warrior Welcome, a celebratory start to the next chapter.
There is also a Band of Brothers Welcome that takes place at a later date, featuring a day of fun activities such as bowling and laser tag.
5. Enrollment
Receiving your acceptance letter is a big moment. To secure your son’s spot, you will need to complete all enrollment paperwork and submit the enrollment deposit by the deadline outlined in your acceptance packet. The Early Enrollment Period provides priority benefits if you complete this step promptly.
