Brother Rice High School and the Athletic Department are proud to announce the hiring of Kevin Tapchom ’14 as the new head coach of the Warrior soccer program.
A 2014 Brother Rice alumnus, Tapchom brings a deep connection to the school along with a strong background in player development and leadership. He competed for the Warriors from 2011–2013, helping shape the program during his high school playing career.
“It’s an honor to be back at my alma mater and have the opportunity to lead our program,” said Tapchom. “It’s an understatement to say that Brother Rice has shaped who I am as a person. The values, standards, and relationships I formed during my time here set me on a positive path and prepared me for college and beyond.”
Jeff Calcaterra, Director of Athletics at Brother Rice, expressed his enthusiasm for the hire. “We are thrilled to welcome Coach Tapchom back to our Warrior brotherhood. He brings tremendous energy, passion, technical skill, and extensive experience in player development at the high school level. Bringing back a Warrior to lead our program is especially exciting. Kevin has lived our culture firsthand and is deeply in tune with the greater Edmund Rice mission.”
In addition to his high school playing career, Tapchom competed with the Vardar Academy in 2014, gaining valuable experience in a high-performance soccer environment. He continued his soccer career at the collegiate level at the University of Detroit Mercy from 2014 to 2019.
Tapchom began his coaching career at Clarkston High School, where he served as JV Head Coach and Varsity Assistant Coach from 2019 to 2025. He also led the Waterford Mott Girls Soccer Program as Head Coach from 2022 to 2025 and currently serves as the Head Girls Soccer Coach at Rochester High School.
Beyond high school coaching, Coach Tapchom is the founder of Evolution Soccer Training, a program that serves athletes of all ages and ability levels and reaches more than 1,000 players annually. The program reflects his commitment to technical excellence and long-term player development.
“I want to make sure that every player who comes through our program has the same opportunities I had,” Tapchom added. “I’m looking forward to building strong relationships with our players, staff, and everyone involved in the program, and creating an environment where our athletes have a positive experience, develop as players and people, and compete relentlessly.”
With strong ties to Brother Rice and a proven track record of developing student-athletes, Coach Tapchom returns to his alma mater ready to guide the next generation of Warriors.
