“Our family relocated to Michigan 8 years ago and our son attended elementary and middle school in Bloomfield Hills. When the time arrived  for high school consideration,  our family was truly open to high school options (both public and private) for our son and we did not have preferences or past biases. We explored all our options which led us to Brother Rice.  After visiting several schools as well as shadow day experiences, we chose Brother Rice for 2 main reasons. First and foremost, our son said he felt good about his experience in comparison to other schools he visited. He felt the Brother Rice experience was different, and he could see himself there. Secondly, as parents we felt a genuine care, support, and partnership we had not felt at other schools we visited.  As an example, we only mentioned our son was interested in Architecture as a career Principal O. personally invited our son back after a shadow day to meet the Architecture Teacher and to spend time visiting his class. No other school did that.“

“Choosing Brother Rice High School has to be the single best decision we have made for our boys. That being said, it wasn’t easy. We were not alumni, we did not live close (Rochester), we did not have any connections (like we did to some of the other private schools) and we knew very little about Rice, other than some (incorrect) stereotypes. From the moment our son shadowed, he fell in love with the school, and even after we shared our concerns (distance and knowing anyone) he put our fears to rest by simply stating he felt like Rice would challenge him in ways the others could not …force him to grow & get out of his comfort zone. No truer words could have been spoken. From academics to athletics and many experiences in between, both our boys have been challenged and stretched to be their best. “As a parent, the most important factor is your child feeling like he matters, his goals matter, and that teachers/counselors are invested in both. Brother Rice does this in spades. While things like outstanding college prep academics, and parent involvement help make this school culture great, it is the opportunities to thrive, find new interests, create/join as many clubs as they like, be part of many different circles, and to feel like their teachers care about them that sets the school apart. Brother Rice goes deep with State Championships in several sports, but the rumor that only sports kids will thrive here is false. The robotics team is one of the few in the nation who have made it to the State Championship every year. The art/music program, while small, has dedicated teachers. The BAND OF BROTHERS brotherhood blends all grade levels together, creating amazing bonds that will last a lifetime. The alumni are fiercely loyal!”
