Patrick Cretu – 2025 National Merit Scholar

Brother Rice is proud to announce that Patrick Cretu ’25 has been named a National Merit Scholarship Winner — one of the most prestigious academic honors a high school student can achieve.

Each year, more than 1.3 million students enter the National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the PSAT/NMSQT. From this group, only about 7,000 students nationwide are selected as National Merit Scholars, recognized for their exceptional academic promise, leadership, and commitment to excellence. Patrick’s selection places him among the top 0.5% of students in the country — a testament to his intellect, work ethic, and character.

Patrick’s achievements extend far beyond the classroom. He serves as President of the Medical Club, is a National Honor Society member, a Band of Brothers Core Leader, and has been named an AP Scholar with Distinction. He’s also a 4-time Scholastic All-Catholic Team honoree for tennis.

On the court, Patrick is a 3-star athlete ranked 3rd in Michigan, a 4-year varsity player, and a 2-year team captain. He’s earned 3 Division 1 All-State honors, has been a State Finalist and 2-time Semifinalist, and is a 4-time Regional Champion. His success has earned him a spot at Hillsdale College, where he will study Biology or Biochemistry and compete on the Tennis Team.

Outside of school, Patrick has completed medical shadowing at Troy Beaumont Hospital, volunteers weekly singing in services at St. Sabbas Orthodox Monastery, and is an award-winning pianist, having won multiple competitions, including national recognition from the American Guild of Music.

Patrick exemplifies what it means to be a Warrior: a man of intellect, character, and faith. Congratulations to Patrick and the entire Cretu family on this well-earned recognition and bright future ahead!
