Warrior of the Week CJ Hornberger ’26

As a student, what does Brother Rice (and the experience you have had so far) mean to you?

Brother Rice to me means a community of brothers that help each other and build each other up. It means that if I need help with anything whatsoever, I can turn to any of my fellow brothers knowing that they’re going to help me. It means that there’s no cliques and no one is left out. To me Brother Rice means a high academic standard and an even higher standard for students outside the classroom.

How has Brother Rice helped you improve as a student?

Brother Rice has helped me improve as a student by teaching me how to manage my time. As a student-athlete wanting to succeed both on the field and in the classroom, it was important for me to understand how to manage practice, homework, and studying everyday. Thankfully, I was able to learn this skill quickly as I most likely would have fallen behind if I didn’t learn it. My ability to manage my time is one of the reasons I have been successful not just as a Brother Rice student, but as an athlete as well.

Brotherhood, Elite, Successful

Who is your favorite teacher or coach and why?

My favorite coach is Mr. Galli. Mr. Galli has coached me in baseball since I was 9 years-old and during my time with him I’ve learned that he is calm, friendly, and caring. What I admire the most about Mr. Galli is that he represents the RICE pillars and shows what an honorable man should be.

What’s your favorite place on campus and why?

My favorite place on campus is the CLA because it can be used it for many different reasons. It can be used as a place to study, hangout, or learn. Whenever I have free time, whether before or after school, I always see myself going to the CLA because I know I can go there to either study or relax. In the past, I’ve used the CLA to study for quizzes or tests, complete my homework assignments, and hangout with my friends. It’s my favorite place because it serves as a place I can go to for anything at any time.

What’s your favorite thing about Brother Rice?

My favorite thing about Brother Rice is the brotherhood. The brotherhood at Brother Rice is unlike any school I have ever attended. I truly feel that at Brother Rice, every one is included and I know that I can turn to any of my fellow brothers knowing that they’re going to be there to help me with whatever I’m struggling with. The brotherhood at Brother Rice is what sets it apart from any other school and that’s my favorite thing about it.

What are some of the ways you have grown since you came to Brother Rice?

I have grown not just as a student, but also as a person at Brother Rice. During my time at Brother Rice I have learned many different skills, such as time management, that will help me not just during my time at Brother Rice, but for the rest of my life. I have also grown in maturity by learning and incorporating the RICE pillars of Respect, Integrity, Character, and Excellence into my everyday life. But most importantly, I have grown in my relationship with Jesus while I’ve attended Brother Rice.
