Honoring the Legacy of Walter & Jo Ann “Sis” Fisher

A Son’s Lasting Tribute to A Life Well Lived

“Honoring the legacy of values embodied in the lives of my parents and instilled in me at a young age – devotion to faith, passion for learning, love of sport and the outdoors, and care for the environment – has become foundational to what Lauren and I have aspired for our children. In looking back on friendships formed and life experiences shared, I’ve been humbled to see my parents’ life lessons take root in our three sons and daughter knowing Brother Rice connections have been center stage in that journey. For Lauren and me, this gift is a testament to the generational influence Catholic Education has had in our family and the promise Brother Rice holds for future generations to come.”   —  Greg Fisher ‘77

Appreciating the blessings in one’s life and recognizing those who made it all possible is a faith-filled belief rooted in humility, gratitude, and grace. To heed that call, and ensure it comes to fruition, is one of the greatest of generational gifts one can bestow upon others, for it defines the essence of parenthood and serves as a beacon of a life well lived.

It is the legacy that Walter & Sis Fisher gifted to their children Elise, Greg, and Yvonne.  It is the life lessons that Greg ’77 & Lauren Fisher are teaching their children Kurt ’09, Grant ’10, Reid ’14 and Claire.

It is the gift of being a tight-knit family. It is the gift of faith and Catholic education. It is the gift of competitive and team sports. It is the gift of adventure on the water, on the slopes, on the fields and on the fairways. It is the gift of friendship bonds.

It is the gift of a Brother Rice education.

We are pleased to share the news of a $2,500,000 investment in the future of Brother Rice High School made possible through the extraordinary generosity of Walter & Sis Fisher and Greg ’77 & Lauren Fisher. This transformational gift will have a lasting impact and will advance the mission of Brother Rice High School by expanding campus facilities and enhancing student programs.

As a member of the Class of ’77 and a proud graduate of the University of Notre Dame, Greg has been among a handful of the most loyal and generous alumni in the history of Brother Rice High School evidenced by his philanthropic donations each year for more than three decades. Loyalty and giving back are traits that form personal character and run deep in Greg’s life.

Like Walter & Sis, Greg & Lauren have been active volunteer leaders in service to the Church, affiliated organizations, and community non-profits. Through the years, they have watched their children excel in the classroom and compete on the playing fields. Through these volunteer and parenting experiences, Greg & Lauren have formed lifetime friendships, often with Brother Rice being the common denominator.

Pioneers in the automotive industry, the Fisher family name is synonymous with the ideals of fairness, loyalty, quality, and excellence. These were the characteristics of the life led by Walter Fisher and his brothers in forming Fisher Corporation and General Safety and later acclaimed Nub’s Nob as the #1 ranked family ski resort in the Midwest for five consecutive years.

These were the life pillars that Walter and Sis Fisher instilled in their children and now carried forward in the lives of their grandchildren – Logan Hayes Lauterbach, Stewart Hayes ’06, Kurt Fisher ’09, Grant Fisher ’10, Madison McCready, Reid Fisher ’14, Claire Fisher, and Louise McCready.

We are inspired by the legacy of Walter & Sis Fisher and humbled by the generosity of Lauren & Greg Fisher ’77 as we are ever grateful for this transformational $2,500,000 investment in the future of Brother Rice High School.
