Brother Rice Alumni Association Alumnus of the Year Michael Tyranski ‘84

The Brother Rice Alumni Association is proud to honor our 2024 Alumnus of the Year Michael Tyranski ’84, a pioneering volunteer leader at Brother Rice who selflessly has supported our mission in word and deed, in leadership and in example as a passionate advocate for affordability and accessibility at Brother Rice.

As an inspiration and visionary behind Brother Rice’s signature event, “RICE in the D,” and as the longstanding President of the school’s endowment board, Michael has been instrumental in securing and channeling resources to support students and families faced with financial hardship. In many ways, personally and professionally, Michael has given selflessly for more than two decades to ensure the legacy and stability of Brother Rice High School. His volunteer leadership has always been centered on making possible the gift of a Brother Rice education for the next generation of Warrior Brothers.

Michael grew up in Royal Oak, graduating from Brother Rice in 1984 and, thereafter, graduated from the School of Business at Michigan State University with a finance degree in 1988. Michael found his passion for finance and investing at an early age and has been a recognized industry leader, now serving as a Managing Director and Senior Partner of a wealth management team at Merrill Lynch in Bloomfield Hills, which oversees $2 billion under management. As a “Best in Michigan Wealth Management Advisor,” as recognized by Forbes Magazine, Michael’s business acumen and passion for his alma mater have been a defining influence in the five-fold growth in Brother Rice’s endowment during his service.

Michael lives with his wife, Kari, in Birmingham and is the proud father of two Brother Rice alumni – Mitchell ’16 and Kevin ’17. This May, he will see his youngest son, Ryan, graduate as he is welcomed into the proud ranks of Warrior Brothers as an alumnus of Brother Rice High School.

As Michael looks back on his years at Brother Rice as a student, alumnus, and volunteer leader, he proudly notes: “The world is a very competitive place. Brother Rice taught me to believe in myself and gave me a sense of confidence that I otherwise wouldn’t have had. My formation in faith during my most impressionable years has always brought me back to the most important values that have guided my life. I know Brother Rice changed the course of my life for the better. I wouldn’t be who I am today without the friendship, influence, and guidance of amazing teachers, coaches, and friends at Brother Rice.”

For Michael, Brother Rice is: “An incredible brotherhood and community that doesn’t end after graduation. It lasts a lifetime!”

On the occasion of this special honor, we are more than proud to see Michael recognized in this way, knowing of the humble, untold difference he continues to make in the lives of others simply by his example of goodness, selflessness, and kindness in volunteer service to our school and our community. Michael embodies the very ideals of Respect, Integrity, Character, and Excellence and remains an inspiration to so many in his care for the mission of Brother Rice High School.

Please join us in congratulating Michael Tyranski ’84 on this well-deserved recognition from the Alumni Association of Brother Rice High School as the 2024 Alumnus of the Year.
