100% Brother Rice Student Spotlight – Christian McNulty ’23

There are many things that make a Brother Rice student who he is. None of which are average. We encourage our students to develop their interests and pursuits through experiential learning opportunities, helping them discover hidden talents and passions. Every student’s path is different and we believe that is a good thing. We also believe that only when you are 100% YOU, are you 100% Brother Rice!

To me, Brother Rice has been an incredible experience. The friendships and memories I have made and lessons I have learned have been truly life-changing. Culture is what Brother Rice means to me – it’s the traditions and spirit from our student section, Catholic Schools Week, and the Band of Brothers that make Rice special.” — Christian McNulty ’23

When you think of Brother Rice, what three words come to mind first?

Brotherhood, Driven, Excellence

How has Brother Rice helped you improve as a student?

Brother Rice has helped me improve in many ways. I have learned how to be a hard worker and grind out hours of homework when needed. It has helped me develop a love of learning. Great teachers have made what could have been mundane subjects interesting, and this has sparked a love of learning within me. I can honestly say I am interested in learning about how the world works around me in AP Chemistry and AP Physics or our country’s history in AP US History.

Who is your favorite teacher or coach?

My favorite coach at Brother Rice is Coach Luke Timmis ’10, the Varsity B Lacrosse Coach. He cares incredibly about the school, our team, and the sport. He helped me become a much better player and instilled hard work and confidence in me. He was an extremely inspiring mentor.

What’s your favorite place on campus?

My favorite place on campus is probably the gym. This is where I have some of my best memories, from supporting our basketball team to participating in pep rallies to bonding with my mentor group playing games.

What’s your favorite thing about Brother Rice?

My favorite part of Brother Rice is the community. I have become very close with almost all my classmates in my grade and know the younger students pretty well too. I met my best friends at Rice – people I know I will be friends with 40 years from now. I also know I am a part of a very special larger community. Whenever I wear Rice merch, I am constantly stopped by people who are alumni or whose sons went to Rice. They always want to know how the school and I am doing. That is how I know that the Alumni family Rice creates is extraordinary.

What are some of the ways you have grown during your time at Brother Rice?

Since I came to Brother Rice, I have grown as a leader through things such as the Band of Brothers. I have learned from the students before me how to lead, set a good example, reach out to underclassmen, and help those with questions. This has allowed me to grow into the leader I have become. Without these teachers and past students as mentors, I would not be the person I am today.
