Loyal Alumnus & Son of Brother Rice Gives Back to His Alma Mater

Brother Rice High School private Catholic Bloomfield Hills Mi Board of Directors

“My years at Brother Rice were memorable, impactful, and lasting. I am ever grateful to the Brothers and my teachers for instilling values that became pillars for my life, while also teaching critical thinking skills that became central to my success in college and throughout my career.  I am humbled to be able to give back to a school that has meant so much to me.  Nearly 50 years later, I say proudly with conviction and appreciation, the Brother Rice Experience truly lasts a lifetime.

Michael George ‘72

One of the great lessons of a Brother Rice education is often unspoken, best witnessed, and rarely taught. The RICE pillars of Respect, Integrity, Character, Excellence are most meaningfully seen in the classrooms, on the playing fields, and in the lives of our alumni.

Few alumni embody the spirit of RICE as much as Michael George ’72 – a loyal son of Brother Rice who has unwaveringly supported our mission across the decades in word and action, time and talent. Recognizing the gift of a Brother Rice education in his life, Michael wanted to ensure that gift was available for generations of students to come.

I am pleased to share news of Michael’s $550,000 gift to Brother Rice High School given in the form of a $250,000 gift to improve campus facilities while supplemented by a $300,000 planned gift designated in Michael’s estate plan.

As a loyal alumnus, Chair of the school’s Finance Committee, and member of the school’s  Board of Directors, Michael’s gift reflects his tangible investment in our mission today and his lasting commitment to the future of Brother Rice High School for decades to come.

Throughout his professional career in investment banking in New York, Michael never lost touch with his roots in Detroit and Brother Rice High School. Upon his retirement in 2012, Michael returned to Bloomfield Hills and became more active at his alma mater.

His experience and wisdom has proven to be a treasured resource helping guide the next chapter for Brother Rice High School. Evidenced by his designation of Brother Rice in his estate plans, Michaels acumen for financial planning continues to be a trusted resource in Board deliberations.

A man of word and action, Michael George ’72 not only “talks the talk, but walks the walk” in helping his alma mater more fully live out the graced teachings of Blessed Edmund Rice via our mission of education each day on Lahser Road.

We are humbled by Michael’s commitment and ever grateful for this investment in the future of Brother Rice High School.
