Student Support
Our counselling team helps guide each student’s journey. From mapping the path to academic success to college planning, and everything in between...student support is our priority.
The Brother Rice Counseling team prioritizes the well-being of the whole person - mind, body, and spirit. We offer comprehensive support, focusing on excellence in academics, college guidance, and mental wellness. Counselors provide plenty of opportunities to connect with students one-on-one and are readily available to offer each student, from the challenged learner to the gifted scholar, the support they may need throughout their journey at Brother Rice.
Mandatory semester check-ins and ongoing support options align with our core values of respect, integrity, character, and excellence. Our team aims to guide each student academically, socially, and vocationally, helping them make wise choices and recognize their potential, all while instilling moral values and confidence in God’s love.
Academic Guidance
Academic guidance is an ongoing and dynamic experience at Brother Rice. Beginning with the admission of our freshman class annually, the Counseling Department provides transitional activities including freshman orientation and individual interviews to ensure proper academic placement. Counselors meet with students individually and in small groups throughout the school year. Parent meetings are scheduled several times a year to provide important and relevant information pertinent to their student’s grade level.
All freshman, sophomores, juniors and seniors participate in structured “Chapel Meetings” to disseminate information and knowledge essential to a successful Brother Rice educational experience. Topics include academic planning, scheduling, college-readiness, college counseling information (Warrior College Workshops for juniors & seniors), standardized testing skills, communication skills, and social/emotional topics intended to develop awareness of self and others. Sessions are conducted by the grade-level counselors and guest speakers.
Standardized Testing
Standardized testing is conducted through the Counseling Department. Brother Rice administers the PSAT 8/9 for 9th grade and the PSAT for 10th grade, the PSAT/NMSQT (National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test) for 11th grade, the PreACT for 9th and 10th grades, and the ACT for 11th graders. Advanced Placement Exams are administered every spring for our AP-level students. Brother Rice is also an approved Cambridge Assessment Testing Centre for Oxford University admissions.
