25th Anniversary of the Beatification of Blessed Edmund Rice
Today, we celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the Beatification of Blessed Edmund Rice.
On October 6, 1996, the Church officially recognized the tremendous attributes of Edmund Rice and his virtuous life, as Pope John Paul II beatified Edmund in a ceremony at St. Peter’s Square in Vatican City.
Today, on six continents and in more than thirty countries, the mission of Blessed Edmund Rice continues to bring hope to the poor and marginalized in our midst. We are ever thankful for our Christian Brothers at Brother Rice High School. For over 60 years, they have led our faculty, staff, alumni, parents, and friends who have been inspired by Blessed Edmund’s vision and charism in continuing to spread his message of hope in the minds and hearts of our young men in ways that transform their lives and ours.
As we celebrate this special day, we look to the future inspired by the example of his life and we pray…
Creator God,
we thank you for the life and work of this gifted man,
Blessed Edmund Rice.
He opened his heart generously to Christ present and appealing to him
in the poor who were oppressed by poverty and injustice.
May we follow his example of faith and generosity.
O God,
give us the courage and compassion of Blessed Edmund
as we seek to support one another, protect the vulnerable and
care for the earth, our common home.
We make this prayer through Jesus Christ, Our Lord.
Amen.
LIVE, JESUS, IN OUR HEARTS FOREVER!
