The Bloomfield Hills Financial Stock to Scholarships goal is to help high school students in the Metro Detroit Tri-County area understand the basics of investing by participating in a risk-free environment with a fantastic incentive; you can win scholarship money for college!
Each student is given access to an online investment account pre-funded with $100,000 in “play money” which can be used to purchase various stocks and mutual funds. The participants can place trades in their portfolios at will. The goal is to amass more “money” in their account than any other participants. The top three students who accrue the most wealth by the end of the contest will be awarded money for their college education.
Joe McCusker ’14 placed second after growing his $100,000 account to $121,026.55 in a little over 2 months. Joe won the 2013 contest earning $5,000 in scholarship money towards college. This year’s second place prize is a $2,000 scholarship. Joe is the class of 2014 co-Salutatorian, played varsity soccer and will be attending U of M in the fall to pursue a pre-med undergraduate degree. Joe was also a recipient of the Al Fracassa scholarship which was a faculty nominated award chosen by coach Fracassa and is another $3,500 in college scholarship money. Congratulations to Joe “Smiles” McCusker ’14 as he continues his education next fall.
