Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook-Kingswood’s Alexandria Najarian and Birmingham Brother Rice’s Jason Alessi each took home the 2014 High School Athlete of the Year Award Monday night in downtown Detroit.
The award, sponsored by the Detroit Athletic Club, honors the top senior male and female student-athlete based on merits in athletics, academics and recognized citizenship.
Najarian and Alessi were among 12 finalists for the annual award – six male and six female – from across the state. Four other Oakland County athletes were also nominated: Asia Doss (Country Day), Michelle Manning (Country Day), Sammie Stevens (Brother Rice) and Taylor Timko (Notre Dame Prep).
Alessi is a two-sport star for Brother Rice. An All-American lacrosse player for the Warriors, Alessi will play football for Yale University. His Warrior teams are three-time state football and lacrosse state champions. He’ll be going for lacrosse title No. 4 this spring.
