Brother Rice High School is pleased to announce our 2024 Spirit of Blessed Edmund Honorees Sue and Ray Ebbing ‘77, Mark Hogan, and Jay Louis-Prescott.
The Spirit of Blessed Edmund Society is the most prestigious honor we have and was established in 1999 to honor those who have epitomized the Brother Rice Spirit. This spirit is reflected in people who have shown extraordinary dedication, love, concern, leadership, and enthusiasm for Brother Rice High School. Without a doubt, this describes the service of this year’s honorees.
Loyal members of the Brother Rice Community, Susan and Ray Ebbing have devoted their time, talents, and treasure to Brother Rice in many ways through the years. As Catholic parents who modeled their commitment to faith and family, they prioritized sending their children to Catholic Schools, including Marian and Brother Rice High School. Well respected in the community, Ray Ebbing is a member of the Brother Rice Board of Directors and serves on the Executive Committee providing great counsel to the President and Administration of Brother Rice. Susan and Ray have generously supported countless initiatives at Brother Rice, and their legacy continues with their Warrior sons and extended Ebbing Family.
A respected and valued Brother Rice Board of Directors member, Mark Hogan served in this capacity for ten years, beginning in 2013. Mark and his wife Sallie joined the Brother Rice Community in 2005 as parents of two Warrior sons, Bennett and Will. As generous benefactors, they supported our athletic programs, capital improvements, tuition assistance, and annual gifts to the auction, enriching the student experience for all Brother Rice Warriors. A captain of industry, Mark quietly and humbly committed his time, passion, and expertise to Brother Rice, serving on multiple committees and providing invaluable counsel. Mark’s actions spoke volumes about what he valued, and his competence and professionalism were equally matched by his kindness and compassion. We lost Mark in 2023, and we miss him dearly.
A beloved teacher, coach, and mentor at Brother Rice High School for over thirty years, Jay Louis-Prescott cared for the spiritual life of Brother Rice, our faculty, our students, and our families. As the presence of the Christian Brothers in the school decreased, Jay became a model for the laity as to the Charism of Blessed Edmund Rice. Jay served as a teacher, Department Chair, Campus Minister, and long-time Soccer coach. He influenced thousands of Brother Rice Alumni with his interest in the well-being and total formation of the young men of Brother Rice High School.
