How do I apply to Brother Rice?


We would like to extend an invitation to you and your family to attend one of our admissions events or school activities and visit our school campus. Applying to Brother Rice is a simple process (see below). If you have any questions, please feel free to contact our Admissions Office at 248-833-2020 or

Once you’ve decided that Brother Rice is the right school for you, the application process is a simple 3 step process.

High School Placement Test and Test Preparation Opportunities


Any 8th grade applicant interested in attending Brother Rice must take the High School Placement Test. The tests are given at Brother Rice on the following dates:

  • Saturday, November 18, 2017 (8 am to 11:30pm) $40*
  • Saturday, December 2, 2017 (8 am to 11:30 pm) $40*
  • Saturday, February 3, 2018 (8 am to 11:30 pm) $40
  • Saturday, March 3, 2018 (8 am to 11:30 pm) $40

*Best to take the test in November or December in order to meet the early admissions deadlines and to be eligible for scholarships and awards.

Please arrive prior to 8:00 am for check-in – bring a few #2 pencils – no calculators or snacks allowed. (A drink and snack will be provided during break).

Brother Rice offers many opportunities for students to prepare for the November and December HSPT. In the Prep Class, experienced Brother Rice teachers will provide tips and tricks to prepare students to do their best.  Brother Rice will also host two practice exam opportunities. The exam is proctored, timed and scored. Students will take a practice test and review the answers with a current BRHS Honor Student.


  • Prep Class –  Saturday, October 21, 2017 8:00-10:30 –  $50.00 (includes a copy of the 2017-2018 Study Guide)


  • Practice Test and Tutoring – Tuesday, November 14, 2016 4:00-7:00pm $50.00 (includes a pizza dinner and camaraderie)
  • Practice Test and Tutoring – Tuesday, November 28, 2016 4:00-7:00pm  $50.00 (includes a pizza dinner and camaraderie)


  • HSPT Study Guide (Included in the Prep Class Package) $20.00

The Archdiocese of Detroit Common Online Application will be available by mid-September for the class of 2022.  Click here for class of 2021 on-line application.

To be considered for academic scholarships – completed applications must be received by December 20th, 2017 (students must have taken the November or December High School Place test).

Please keep in mind, the student profile form gives permission to your school to release your academic records to Brother Rice. It also allows for teachers and counselors to provide academic feedback for course placement purposes.  This is part of the application. A copy of your full 7th grade report card along with the 1st quarter or most recent 8th grade transcript must be submitted as a prerequisite for admission to Brother Rice. This is also part of the application.

Please note – Section III of the application is the supplement. Brother Rice DOES NOT REQUIRE A SUPPLEMENT. Simply fill out all other sections of the application to apply to Brother Rice.

Interviews are ongoing throughout the year. The Admissions Office interviews student applicants by appointment or at the end of their “Warrior for a Day” visit. Read more about visiting and becoming a “Warrior For The Day.

Once the above 3 steps are complete, Brother Rice will send all priority acceptance letters on January 26, 2018.  It is important to apply early (by December 20th) in order to be a part of the January 26th acceptance opportunity. Those applicants will be eligible for scholarships and awards. After January 26th,  Brother Rice has a rolling admissions process where candidates are able to submit an application if spots in the class of 2021 are still available.
